Overview

Warwick Area Career & Technical Center, or WACTC, is a public secondary career-training center serving students who want to combine high-school academics with hands-on occupational education. For the 2026–27 school year, WACTC advertises 17 career programs spanning traditional trades, transportation, technology, healthcare and creative careers.

The center also received continued NEASC accreditation and maintains an active SkillsUSA program. In 2026, more than 100 WACTC students advanced from in-house SkillsUSA competitions to Rhode Island state-level events.

The newly launched Environmental Science & Renewable Energies program is designed around skilled careers connected to renewable-energy industries.

Automotive Technology

WACTC’s automotive students receive industry exposure in addition to classroom/shop instruction. In 2025, representatives from Tasca Ford Group and Ford Motor Company visited the program to discuss technician careers and workforce demand. WACTC reported that its CTE programs were operating near capacity at the time.

Career Competitions & Industry Preparation

SkillsUSA is an important component of the school’s career-training model. Students compete in areas connected to construction, cosmetology, technical skills and other trades.

WACTC students have also received industry-focused awards. In 2026, students in automotive, construction, electrical and marine trades were among recipients of $1,000 Toolship grants intended to help them enter their careers with needed equipment.

Tuition & Financial Aid

WACTC is a public secondary CTE center rather than a private postsecondary trade school. Eligible students therefore attend through the public-school system instead of paying private vocational tuition.

Traditional FAFSA-based financial aid does not apply to ordinary high-school enrollment.

This makes WACTC particularly valuable for students who want substantial trade exposure before deciding whether to pursue apprenticeship, community college or private technical school.
