Driving Academy’s Portland-area CDL school is physically located in Troutdale, Oregon, near Troutdale Airport. The campus provides Class A and Class B CDL training for students preparing for commercial trucking and driving careers throughout the greater Portland area.
Students combine traditional classroom instruction with practical training at an attached 3-acre training yard. The school also provides road-driving preparation and offers both automatic and manual-transmission training.
Class A training prepares students to operate qualifying combination vehicles, including tractor-trailers with trailers exceeding 10,000 pounds.
Class B training prepares students for qualifying heavy single-unit commercial vehicles, including many box trucks and delivery vehicles.
Students can choose from different training levels based on their experience.
Beginners can complete permit preparation and hands-on training, while students who already hold a commercial learner’s permit can select a Half Course designed specifically to prepare them for the CDL road test.
Hands-on training covers vehicle inspection, basic vehicle-control skills, parking maneuvers and road driving.
Students can also choose between manual and automatic-transmission vehicles. Students who complete their road test in an automatic truck should be aware that an automatic-transmission restriction may be placed on their CDL.
The Portland/Troutdale campus does not publish one fixed total tuition amount. Driving Academy advertises payment plans beginning with $500 down.
Students should request a written breakdown of tuition, testing and other charges for their chosen program before enrollment.
