• Website: Bristol Technical Education Center
Bristol Technical Education Center is part of Connecticut’s public technical education system and serves both high-school students and adult/post-graduate learners. Unlike a conventional four-year technical high school, BTEC primarily enrolls students entering grades 11 and 12 as well as adults who already hold a high-school diploma or GED.
The school offers seven career and technical programs. Students attend full-day technical instruction designed to build occupational and employability skills, and adult graduates earn a Bristol TEC Technology Certificate after completing the required training hours.
BTEC also operates evening apprenticeship and extension courses, giving working adults another route into technical training.
Current programs include:
• Automotive Technology
• Culinary Arts
• Health Technology
• Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning
• Precision Machining Technology
• Robotics & Automation
• Welding & Metal Fabrication
For adult/post-graduate applicants, Health Technology and Robotics & Automation have additional eligibility limitations, so applicants should confirm which programs are currently open to adults.
Current program schedules include:
• Culinary Arts: 1 year
• Precision Machining: 1 year
• Robotics & Automation: 1 year
• Welding & Metal Fabrication: 1 year
• Automotive Technology: 2 years
• HVAC: 2 years
• Health Technology: 2 years for eligible high-school students
Each academic year runs about 10 months, from late August through mid-June.
High-school students pay no tuition. For the 2026–27 school year, post-graduate tuition is $4,000 for a one-year Bristol TEC program, paid as two $2,000 installments, plus a $50 admission-test fee.
Students must purchase their own required tools and uniforms.
BTEC lists alternative financing sources including state-agency funding and GI Bill veteran education benefits.

Based on your listing data:
⭐ Average Rating: 4.2 (13 Reviews)
The review count is small, so prospective students should place more weight on curriculum, cost, admissions requirements and employment opportunities than on the rating alone.
• Adults should apply early because each trade has limited capacity
• Confirm whether your chosen program accepts post-graduate students
• Budget separately for uniforms and tools
• Ask about Work-Based Learning opportunities
• Compare the $4,000 adult tuition with private technical schools before deciding
Bristol Technical Education Center is an unusually strong value for Connecticut residents seeking practical technical training. For adult learners, $4,000 for a one-year full-time program in fields such as welding, machining or culinary arts is dramatically lower than many private trade schools, while high-school students can attend tuition-free.
